1000 trees to be planted in schools across East Ayrshire
Seven schools have been piloting the project within their own grounds.
Children and young people across East Ayrshire will be planting trees within their school grounds.
It is part of an exciting new project led by the EAC Learning Outdoors Support Team (LOST) called 'Greening the School Estate.'
Seven schools including Catrine, Dalrymple, Drongan (pictured above), Galston, Hillhead, Logan and Newmilns Primaries have been piloting the project and the children have been helping to create biodiverse learning environments within their own school grounds.
Biodiversity, which is the variety of life on Earth, is essential for sustaining the ecosystems that provide us with food, helps maintain good health and other vital services.
Some of the classes participating are planting trees as part of their John Muir award.
Tree planting will continue over the coming weeks, thanks to a partnership between the Council, EAC LOST, The Conservation Volunteers Scotland and the #IDigTrees campaign.
More than 300 children and young people will be planting over 1000 trees, which will benefit the local wildlife and contribute to climate action by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
