81 yr old Tom joins Manchester midnight walk in aid of St Ann's Hospice
St Ann's Hospice's Midnight Walk will take place this Friday
MIDNIGHT WALK: Tom Everett is taking on the challenge with his grandson in memory of his late wife, Carol
A hospice in Stockport is asking the public to attend their latest Midnight walk on Friday, June 9 (tomorrow), with tickets still available. The Midnight Walk, which is hosted by St Ann's Hospice returns to Manchester city centre, where hundreds of Mancunians will gather to walk 10km raising money for the charity.
One returning fundraiser is Tom Everett who is taking on the challenge again this year with his grandson, after completing the walk last year and loving it so much. Tom said: “Myself and my grandson Matthew, aged 17, are among the oldest and youngest of those taking part in this challenge for St Ann’s Hospice as I’m 81 years old.
“We have been supporting St Ann’s Hospice for a few years, after my wife Carol was cared for by the hospice. Carol died in 2021 from cancer aged 76, we had been married for 51 years. Carol wanted us to look after St Ann’s as they were so good to us all in the month she was there.

“Matthew and I really enjoyed the walk last year, so we’re excited to take part again although Matthew’s strides are double mine so he will need to slow down to stay with me! I would like to raise as much as I can to ensure the hospice helps more families like ours. Carol was a wonderful person and she was absolutely enthralled by the service she got there, so it’s important to us to help them in any way we can.”

Those participating in the Midnight Walk set off from Manchester Cathedral at midnight and pass many of the city’s iconic landmarks with music and DJ’s providing entertainment throughout. St Ann’s Hospice is raising the final £2 million they need for their Build It Together campaign, building a new purpose-built hospice at the Heald Green site.
All money raised from the walk will go towards the £21.5 million project that will transform the hospice to benefit all who use its services. Betfred has also been announced as the headline sponsor, with all participants getting a goody bag that is sponsored by Caddick Construction.
