A busy month for Southport Dramatic Club

It has been a busy month at the Southport Dramatic Club. Dead Guilty continued to thrill audiences in April and then we hosted the Crosby Gilbert and Sullivan Society for their lovely production of Iolanthe. A murder mystery was solved in our bar on May 3 as Ghostlight Performers raised funds for their Edinburgh debut this August and then a few days later, we were delighted to learn that we had been successful at the NODA Regional Awards as director Paul Wilkinson was named best director of a Youth Drama for Wolves of Willoughby Chase.

Other winners included the ensemble of Calendar Girls which was performed at the Little Theatre by Southport Spotlights last summer. One of the actors in that number is Emma Hall, soon to be seen as Rona in The Revlon Girl.  

Another youth winner was talented young actor Emily Bloom - she won for her role in Wizard of Oz but you may also recognise her from the recent production of DNA.  She will also be on stage at the Little Theatre later this year in Sweeney Todd.

Our current show opened last weekend and will run until Saturday, May 18; The Good Life tells the tale of Barbara and Tom Good and their quest for sustainability in Surbiton. We meet the Goods on Tom’s 40thbirthday where he is feeling reflective and in need of change.

Their friends and neighbours Margo and Jerry Leadbetter do not share their sentiments, thus providing a delightful foil. We have a talented and endearing cast: Corinna Davies and Richard Michell playing Barbara and Tom; Jacqui Padden and Radley Haynes as Margo and Jerry; Trudi Hirsh and Les Gomersall taking a variety of roles to excellent effect.

The aforementioned Revlon Girl is our next show, running from June 18-22 (two performances on the Saturday) and we also have a host of musicals being staged as we slide into summer too.
