A look back at a proper dose of Reading snow in 1971
The pictures were taken shortly after a rarely seen Reading white Christmas

White Christmases are mostly a dream for people in Reading, with just a handful over the last 90 years.
However, there was one in 1970, which was followed by a deluge of snow.
These pictures were taken in early January 1971 and show people having a tremendous time at Prospect Park.
People young and old were hurtling down the hill at the park in Tilehurst
And is that someone skiing we see?
It looks like tremendous fun and a far cry from modern day snow fall in Reading, Berkshire, which seems to just cause enormous traffic jams.

Interestingly, there was only a centimetre of snow on Christmas day itself with the temperature a chilly -3.9C.
However, the skies opened after the big day which led to these wonderful scenes in the popular park.
