Essex residents can look forward to a summer of arts and cultural events, carefully curated by Essex County Council (ECC) and its partners.
The Summer of Culture 2022 will celebrate the environment with the theme ‘The World Around Us’, and will offer a number of exciting projects and activities for residents to enjoy
Working with organisations including The Essex Cultural Diversity Project, The Mercury Theatre, Essex Book Festival, children’s theatre production, What! A Load of Rubbish and Mersea Island based artist duo, Landscape Imaginary - the Summer of Culture 2022 aims to promote projects and events specifically produced by the county’s extensive creative sector.
The Summer of Culture 2022 will also see work commence on the successful application to the Explore Essex Arts Commission.
The winning entry, by writer and performer Amanda Kelleher, is called ‘Now: The Future’ and focuses on climate change. It aims to inspire residents and schoolchildren to think about the environment.
Councillor Graham Butland, Essex County Council cabinet member for the arts, heritage and culture, said: “The launch of the Summer of Culture is a wonderful opportunity to promote the vibrant arts and culture sector we have here in the county and allow people to reconnect with nature and each other.
“At ECC we are committed to supporting the sector, and while we were delighted with how successful last year’s Summer of Culture was, we aim to make this year’s even better. We are already working with a range of fantastic artists and cultural organisations, all of which are producing a number of exciting projects and activities that the county’s residents can enjoy.”
Various events are scheduled to be held at country parks in Colchester, Danbury, Hadleigh and Brentwood, as well as in other locations across the county.
A free Summer of Culture digital guide will be available to Essex residents to provide information about the events as well as the artists and cultural organisations involved.
