Aberglasney Gardens photographer’s work recognised at international competition

Aberglasney Gardens in Carmarthenshire has seen its photographer recognised at the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition.
The photo entitled The Rose Path, which was taken by Nigel McCall at the attraction near Llangathen and was a finalist in the Beautiful Gardens category of the competition.
The competition brings together the best garden, plant, flower and botanical photography from across the world with over 18,000 entries from over 50 countries.
It started in 2008 and continues to be one of the world's most respected photography competitions and exhibitions.
Nigel McCall said, “I am pleased to have been recognised once again in this year’s International Garden Photographer of the Year awards.
Nigel said: "I take photos of the gardens for pleasure rather than reward but it is always heart-warming when given accolades for the hobby I enjoy doing so much.”


Nigel McCall’s images of Aberglasney Gardens have won several awards from the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition over the years.
Nigel has been a volunteer and member of Aberglasney since 2014.
He was the managing director of builders' merchants Towy Works Ltd in Carmarthen before retiring in 2019.

"We are very grateful to him for all the time he puts in to visiting the Gardens and producing these amazing photographs.
"It’s thanks to Nigel that we’re blessed with a wealth of beautiful images of the Gardens throughout the seasons to share on social media, in this new exhibition and in a book which is set to be published in March.”
Finalist photographs, including Nigel’s, will be shown in various combinations and collections in the competition’s exhibitions which will tour the UK.

A collection of Nigel’s award-winning photographs of the gardens through the seasons and over the past few years are currently on display in an Exhibition in Aberglasney’s Mansion House.
