Residents in Aldershot and Farnborough in Hampshire are being asked by the council to check if they can save money on their fuel bills under a new scheme.

Under the Green Homes Grant scheme delivered by Warmworks on behalf of Rushmoor Borough Council and through funding from the government, householders can apply to receive improvements to increase the warmth in their home, including wall, loft, and hot water tank insulation.

The Green Homes Grant scheme is open to homeowners and people in social rented accommodation, with a low annual income and where the home has a reduced energy rating.

Councillor Ken Muschamp, Rushmoor Borough Council’s cabinet member for customer experience and improvement, said: “With people using their heating systems more in the winter months, the Green Homes Grant scheme offers vital improvements which could see many residents who are on a low income and who find it hard to heat their home, benefit from measures which will keep them warmer, reduce their bills, and decrease their home’s impact on the environment.”

The scheme also offers renewable heating technologies designed to support homes to reduce their impact on the environment, including air source, ground source and hybrid heat pumps, and biomass boilers.

For people  in social rented accommodation, landlords have to make a financial contribution to the work, but residents with a qualifying energy rating and less than £30,000 household income would receive help without having to make a contribution.

If eligible, Warmworks will arrange a survey to agree what work will be carried out. Then, a local accredited and registered sub-contractor will complete the installation of the agreed heating and energy-efficiency measures before an independent inspection assesses the completed work against rigorous quality standards.

Where required, Warmworks will also then arrange for a full annual service to be completed 12 months later.

Ross Armstrong, managing director at Warmworks, said: “We first launched the Green Homes Grant scheme in the area in November 2021, and the number of applications we have received has already exceeded our expectations.

“Not only does the renewable heating technology available under the scheme offer local people an opportunity to reduce their carbon emissions and support the transition to net zero, but in colder weather months, one of the most important benefits we can offer through the scheme is to help people feel warmer, healthier and happier in their homes.”

Residents can apply for the scheme by completing an application form online at http://surveys.est.org.uk/s/GreenHomesGrantSchemeLAD or by calling 0808 196 8255.
