As we head into autumn, Southport Macmillan Centre is launching a new programme of activities aimed at supporting those affected by cancer in the Southport and Formby area. We are running a mixture of outreach information events and groups and activities in our Centre in Southport, so there should be something for everyone.

If you have a Formby GP why not pop along to Formby Library on Wednesday, 13th of September, between 1.30pm and 3.30pm, to speak with one of our team. There will be an information stand and a chance to have a cup of tea or coffee and chat to staff and volunteers or share your experiences with others.

This event takes place on the second Wednesday of every month. And for Ainsdale & Birkdale GP patients, there’s a drop in on the last Tuesday of the month, between 10am and 2pm, at Ainsdale Lunch & Leisure, where one of the team will be on hand to offer information and support.

We are restarting our Coffee and Chat afternoons with an informal social on Wednesday, 6th September, at 2pm. All are welcome to come, no need to book.  Future meetings will include speakers on interesting topics.

On Thursday, 14th September, we’re launching our new breast cancer support group here at the Centre, between 7pm and 9pm. Following meetings will always take place on the second Thursday of the month and the group is open to anyone who has had breast cancer in the past, going through treatment now or living with a secondary diagnosis. Please call the Centre to book a place.

Friday, 29th September, is a special day every year for the Macmillan Charity, and we will be supporting the national campaign as always. Southport Macmillan Centre is holding a Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning at Holy Trinity Parish Hall, Hoghton Street, from 2pm to 3.30pm - donations of raffle & tombola prizes gratefully received and cakes too!

Our craft groups have been busy making Christmas items for sale on the day, so it could be a good place to start your Christmas shopping!  All funds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

We will also be running our weekly craft groups and walking groups as usual.  Please look at our website or call the Centre if you would like more information about our activities.

Southport and Formby Macmillan Centre provides a one-to-one service for anyone affected by cancer in the Southport and Formby area.  We have a team of Cancer Specialist Social Prescribing Link Workers who can offer emotional, practical and financial support. They work closely with GP Surgeries, and they can help with a variety of issues. You can access this service by requesting a referral from GP, telephoning the Centre or dropping in to see us.  We are available for drop-in visits between 10am and 4pm from Monday to Friday. We also have a well-stocked selection of information booklets and leaflets that you are welcome to read or take away with you.
