Armed police arrested two men following reports that a cannabis farm was being set up in an empty building close to Reading Lake Hotel.

Officers searched the empty building in Pingewood and discovered items including a samurai sword.

A 34-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, both from Reading, Berkshire, were arrested by armed officers on Wednesday, January 16, on suspicion of producing controlled drugs of Class B – cannabis.

The men were also arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, abstracting or using electricity without authority and burglary other than in a dwelling with intent to steal.

The men arrested have been released under investigation.
