Art group in Stafford celebrate 20th anniversary
The Arts Society Stafford is open to anyone who appreciates or wishes to learn more about the arts
An art group in Stafford are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year.
The Arts Society Stafford has enjoyed two decades of innovative and inspirational activity in the town since its inception in 2002.
Masterminded by a team of dedicated lovers of the Arts in Stafford, they were even honoured in 2014 to receive the Queen’s Award for Volunteering - pictured above - the first arts society to receive such an award.
The society is open to anyone who appreciates or wishes to learn more about the arts.
They aim to portray many of the highlights of their 20-year history and notable achievements at a special forthcoming event, an anniversary luncheon at The Moat House on Tuesday, October 4, which is also open to members of the public also.
After morning coffee, attendees will sit down to a lecture by Val Woodgate entitled ‘From Elizabeth to Elizabeth – Five Centuries of British Art’ where they will learn about the true wealth of art and the work of our important artists in that period.
This will be followed by a three-course lunch in the company of the Mayor and Lady Mayoress. The society’s visual displays will also run through the event for all to appreciate.
Chair Michael Faarup said: “The wealth of Arts material that has flowed through the Society to its members and its enormous value over its 20 year history is beyond measure.
“The history of the Society is rich in memory and it is absolutely right that we celebrate and recall the many highlights of our Society at our Anniversary Luncheon.”
This year the society decided to raise money to help the people of Ukraine by organising a public lecture by Rosamund Bartlett from Oxford who is a notable authority on Russian and Ukrainian culture.
Held at the Gatehouse Theatre, entitled The Culture of Ukraine, saw many people attend with the proceeds of ticket sales, more than £2,000, being forwarded to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal of the DEC.
Michael added: “The Gatehouse kindly offered their venue free of charge for this important event and members of the public experienced a typical Arts lecture in our theatre setting for the first time, a good introduction to the ongoing work of our valued society.”
