Girls at a new football team in Ashford have received a sports grant for their first team kit.
UK Power Networks awarded Ashford United under-12s a £250 Team Sport Award for new team kit.
The girls were nominated by Adam Fisher, a lead design engineer at the local electricity firm, whose daughter Tillie plays in the team.
Adam, one of the team’s trainers, said: “We were very happy to receive the award and being a new team, we need everything from bibs, cones and footballs to kit. You name it, we need it.
“The girls haven’t played full matches yet, but they have played in tournaments, mainly against boys, and although they lost they loved it and came off the pitch smiling.
“All the coaches congratulated them on their attitude, for always trying, which gave them a confidence boost.
“We live in a remote area so it’s nice they can meet friends in a safe environment.
“A lot of the training is based around conversations with others and working as a team, which will support their transition to secondary school and throughout life.”
The girls from Ashford, Kent, are establishing the team by playing friendly matches, before joining a league.
