Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra Christmas Concert 2022
The annual concert rounded off a year of events celebrating the Orchestra's 40th anniversary
The Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra set the rafters ringing at Ayr Town Hall with their annual Christmas Concert at the tail end of last year.
In what was possibly the largest group of string players ever to take to the Town Hall stage, 80 current players combined with 75 former players performed many well kent fiddle tunes to an enthusiastic audience.
Provost Campbell was joined by many national and local dignitaries at the event, which marked one of many throughout 2022 to celebrate the Orchestra’s 40th anniversary.

The former Music Director, Alistair McCulloch, delighted with his playing on the famous Gregg Violin- owned by William Gregg, the Dancing Master at the Bachelor’s Club in Tarbolton, and possibly played by Robert Burns himself.
And a special moment saw the Orchestra’s Founder, Wallace Galbraith MBE, presented with a plaque by MP Phillipa Whitford of a House of Commons Motion celebrating AFO’s 40 years.
Founded in October 1982, the Orchestra has now travelled worldwide entertaining audiences in Europe and as far as Australia, Canada, China, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa.

In July this year, AFO will embark on their 20th International Concert Tour to the Southern States of the USA visiting Atlanta, Memphis, New Orleans and Houston Texas.
And closer to home, a senior group have also been invited to the House of Commons at the end of January to add their music to Robert Burns events.
