Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra set to embark on 1206 mile trip across the USA

The Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra are gearing up to entertain crowds both locally and stateside this summer.

AFO’s Annual Summer Concert will be held on Saturday, June 24 at 7.30pm in Ayr Town Hall prior to the Orchestra jetting off on their International Tour to the USA next month.

Fifty-five players and 12 accompanying adults will travel 1206 miles across the USA by coach, and will entertain audiences in Newnan, Georgia, Memphis, New Orleans and Houston.

Whilst visiting Newnan, the Orchestra will be participating in the celebrations of 25 years of the ‘Sister Cities’ relationship with Ayr.

AFO are busy practicing for their annual summer concert later this month

This special relationship was signed back in 1998 by the then Provost of South Ayrshire, Bobby Campbell, and Mayor Keith Brady of Newnan.

The Orchestra are "honoured" to have been invited to perform at Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley, during their trip to Memphis.

And Houston’s visit will see the group visit NASA and the Houston Spaceport to fly the flag for Prestwick’s own Spaceport.

The Southern States Tour involves all the players raising funds for the trip. Support can be made via: https://www.justgiving.com/ayrshirefiddleorchestra.
