Babbacombe bin is back after seven-month saga

A RUBBISH bin which was destroyed by vandals at Babbacombe has been replaced at last after a seven-month saga which included questions being asked at the highest level.

After the bin at Babbacombe Downs was set on fire last August, Babbacombe and St Marychurch Conservative councillor Hazel Foster (above) asked for a replacement.

However, she said, the process involved multiple emails and even asking questions at Full Council to try and get some action.

She says she was told there was no spare bin to replace it, that the council did not have the resources to replace it, and that there was little need for it.

But the bin has now been replaced.

Cllr Foster said: ‘’Babbacombe Downs is a beautiful place, so the excuses offered not to do the simple job of replacing a burnt-out litter bin were rubbish.

“I will continue to push for more to be done to improve it, especially ‘dual’ bins to enable visitors to recycle their bottles, newspaper and tin cans in the way you already can in many other areas.

“With the lockdowns being lifted I want residents and our summer visitors to enjoy the stunning views across Lyme Bay, not look at overflowing bins and litter.”
