Backford hospice announces charity partnership

A local charity has been announced as Amantola Restaurant’s charity partner for 2022.

Hospice of the Good Shepherd - which is based in Backford, Cheshire - will receive donations from the restaurant’s fundraising events.

For more than 30 years, the hospice has provided end of life care to patients living with life limiting conditions from Chester, West Cheshire and Deeside.

They provide a 10 bed in-patient unit, a Living Well Centre and bereavement support for both adults and children.

The Living Well Centre provides day support to help patients maintain their independence and stay at home longer.

The hospice is not part of the NHS and receives only 24% of its income from government funding.

This means it has to raise more than £3 million each year from donations, charity shops and fundraising events.

Maroof Miah, manager of Amantola Restaurant, is planning to host monthly charity events such as quiz nights, auctions and cooking demonstrations.

Sam Eastwood, community and events fundraiser for Hospice of the Good Shepherd, said: “We are excited to have Amantola’s support and can’t wait to work with Maroof, offering events that fit in well with the restaurant and raise our profile within the community, all whilst having a good time.

“We know that people look forward to going out and now that the outlook is better concerning the pandemic, we hope to see many of our supporters that we have missed greatly.”

Maroof said: “We chose Hospice of the Good Shepherd as it is our local Hospice.

“The work that they do is invaluable to the community.

“Partnering with them will see our team raise as much money as we can throughout the year.

“We have many ideas for each month and hope they encourage people to come out and support the Hospice.”
