Beat the winter blues with Care for Kids
You can sign up to one, two or all three of the virtual fitness challenges
Care for Kids North Devon has launched a series of virtual challenges to keep you active and beat away those winter blues during the lockdown.
You can sign up to one, two or all three of the virtual fitness challenges, with a different target every month. You will receive a certificate for completing each challenge, and if you sign up to all three challenges, you’ll receive a finishers medal.
Each challenge costs £5.50 or sign up to all three for £12.75. All funds raised will allow Care for Kids North Devon to continue supporting local families who have a child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness or condition. The charity also carries out improvements at the Caroline Thorpe children’s ward at North Devon District Hospital.
Challenge one is “Jump out of January” – complete a 5km or 10km walk or run during the final weekend of January, as we jump out of the month and launch ourselves into the next. Send your results, along with a photo of yourself jumping for joy at the end of your run, to Care for Kids to share on social media.
Challenge two is “Fitter in February” – complete a 5km or 10km walk or run and send in your results to Care for Kids. This challenge is about building on what you can already achieve and making yourself fitter. Maybe you’d like to challenge yourself further by trying to beat your time with each attempt?
For the final challenge, “March through March” – walk, run or cycle as many miles as you can throughout the month. There will be a little bonus for the person who completes the most miles in March.
Charity manager Jacky Massos, said: “Our virtual events last year were well received, so we wanted to keep the ball rolling and give our supporters something to get stuck into during lockdown.
“These challenges are suitable for seasoned runners and complete beginners – you can even walk or cycle the distance if you like. It’s about setting yourself a target and going for it.
“During the lockdown, we are so restricted in what we can do, exercise and feeling a sense of achievement can help keep your spirits lifted.
“And signing up to “Beat the winter blues” means you’ll also be supporting a small, local charity that needs your help.”
