Big turnout at Runcorn cost-of-living event
Although host organisations heard sad stories of how residents are struggling, the event finished on an upbeat note with people signposted to support.

Organisers have declared a cost-of-living support event at Runcorn Shopping City a big success after "hundreds of people" attended.
Visitors were able to speak to more than 20 charities, companies and other organisations including Runcorn and District Foodbank, Citizens Advice Halton, Runcorn Jobcentre, energy firms, Cheshire police, and Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, which provides mental health services.
Mike Amesbury, Labour MP for Weaver Vale, organised the event and said many members of the public who attended were signposted to support.
He said: “We know many people in our community are really struggling with high energy bills and rising costs across the board.
“It's sad to hear how residents are being impacted, including stories of elderly folk being unable to afford to turn on their heating.
“On a positive note, I am pleased many of those in need have now been offered support or signposted to organisations that can help.
“A huge thank you to all the organisations, their staff and volunteers who attended.
"I just wish we didn’t have to hold events like this.
"I look forward to the day when it’s not necessary.”

The event was also reported to have strengthened joint working between various groups.
Dave Pearman, Shopping City manager, said: “Being able to facilitate so many organisations all under one roof is so important in helping people.
“We know some people find themselves facing difficult times so having face-to-face conversations with industry experts and local advisors hopefully offers people some support and solutions to better days ahead.
“As a shopping centre we want nothing more than people to be able to go about their daily lives and do normal things whilst visiting our shops and businesses, but we recognise to do this people need some help.
“We thank Mike Amesbury and his team for organising today and to all the organisations who offered their advice and support.”
A spokesman for Mr Amesbury's office said anyone who needs support is invited to contact him at 100 River Walk, Shopping City, email mike.amesbury.mp@parliament.uk or call 01928 620 061.
