A toddler group that is struggling to overcome the effects of the pandemic has received a helpful funding boost.

Hillstown Toddlers, based in Bolsover, has been given the £1000 donation by housebuilder Persimmon Homes.

Open every Tuesday morning, Hillstown Toddlers offers a safe, stimulating environment for young children to learn through play.

The funding will go towards developing a sensory area, that is vital for children with additional needs.

Group spokesperson Joanne Sayer said:“We are here to help children achieve their own milestones while offering support to parents, families and carers.

"Over the last two years, some community-based services, such as baby weighing, have come under threat due to funding cuts. We are trying to minimise the impact of these losses and add to our own services.

“We applied to the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme in the hope of developing a sensory area. This is for all children to access but is particularly vital for children with additional needs.”

On behalf of Persimmon Homes, managing director Ben Felton said: “Many grassroots organisations such as Hillstown Toddlers have had a difficult time through the pandemic.

"The demand for support within communities continues to rise, yet many traditional fundraising networks have been disrupted through funding limitations, lockdown and social restrictions.

“Our Community Champions initiative give up to £1,000 funding for two good causes each month. I hope this support enables Hillstown Toddlers to develop their vital service and we wish them every success.”

Persimmon Homes has begun work on a new development in Bolsover named Castle Walk. With consortium partners Strata Homes the new site will create 238 homes.
