After a hiatus, the beloved Bosworth Medieval Festival is set to return this August, much to the delight of history enthusiasts and families alike. Scheduled for Saturday, August 17, and Sunday, August 18, the two-day event will once again take place at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre.
Visitors can expect thrilling battle re-enactments by The Wars of the Roses Federation, with the Battle of Bosworth serving as the grand finale each day. Additionally, the festival will feature immersive living history encampments, engaging author talks, and access to the acclaimed exhibition, all complemented by free parking.
This year holds extra significance as the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre celebrates its 50th anniversary since opening to the public. With the full program still in the works, organisers promise to unveil more attractions in the coming weeks, ensuring a memorable experience for attendees.
Franne Wills, Leicestershire County Council Head of Service for Communities and Wellbeing, said: “It’s an honour to be welcoming back the Bosworth Medieval Festival to our events calendar this August - especially in the same year we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Heritage Centre. The festival offers lots of activities for all the family and has always been a highlight of the summer for us, and thousands of people across the UK and beyond who visit us.
"Leicestershire has a rich and proud heritage to showcase and the Bosworth Medieval Festival does just that." The Battle of Bosworth holds a pivotal place in English history, marking the transition of power from King Richard III to Henry Tudor. Through re-enactments and educational experiences, the festival aims to deepen visitors' understanding of this significant historical event.
