Broadcaster Huw Edwards named as patron of Llanelli Mind charity
Mr Edwards said he is honoured to support the work of Mind in Llanelli
Broadcaster Huw Edwards has been announced as patron of Llanelli's branch of local mental health charity, Llanelli Mind.
Throughout a 40-year career, the news anchor has reported on major global events.
The Llanelli local has also documented his own struggles with depression and anxiety, which at its worst would leave him bedridden and unable to go to work.
In a previous interview with Mind ambassador and fellow health campaigner, Alistair Campbell, Huw said: "Things that you usually enjoy, you dread, you come into work and obviously you do a professional job, but you're kind of pushing your way through it.
"Of course, if it's very bad, as it has been a few times over the course of 20 years - you can't work, during the worst one I had, I couldn't get out of bed."
Llanelli Mind has provided services to local people since 1986 and help around 1,000 people in the community with their mental health every year.
"They offer a range of services, from drop-in support, counselling, support groups including help with self-esteem, as well as projects for children and young people.
Huw said of the appointment:
"I am honoured to support Llanelli Mind in its vital mission to improve the wellbeing of those who live with mental health problems"
Jen Caton, chief executive of Llanelli Mind said: “Our board of trustees and I are truly delighted to announce that Huw Edwards has chosen to become a patron for Llanelli Mind.
"We want to thank Huw for his time which is very much appreciated, and we look forward to continuing a successful relationship."
