Caerphilly County Borough park attacked by arsonists twice in less than five months

Residents have been asked to remain vigilant after recent arson attacks of children’s playgrounds in Caerphilly County Borough have caused over £25,000 worth of damage.

The children’s playground located in Woodfieldside, Blackwood has been targeted twice in less than five months.

The damage included a seesaw and safer surface which officer’s estimate will cost approximately £5,000 to repair, whereas the first attack earlier this year resulted in over £20,000 in damages.

Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for waste, leisure and green spaces said “Whilst Woodfieldside playground is enjoyed by many, it is such a shame that it has been damaged by a small minority.

“We feel that vandals are taking advantage of this park’s remote location and so we are asking our residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity.”
