The Southport Dramatic Club season has come to a close after a wonderful season where we brought you the shows the pandemic paused, as well as classics and new treats. If you visited us this year and enjoyed your experience, please let us know and spread the word.

This weekend, ACE Studios have their dance showcase on stage and then next week Southport Spotlights are bringing us the musical version of Calendar Girls.
You may be familiar with the 2003 film of the same name, written by Tim Firth and Juliette Towhidi.

It is based on the true story of a group of Yorkshire women who produced a controversial calendar to raise money for Leukaemia Research. Tim Firth has teamed up with award winning singer and composer, Gary Barlow to create the musical version which premiered in 2015.

The fundraising idea initially comes up after the sad passing of John. His wife Annie had spent a lot of time with him in hospital when he was being treated, and her friend Chris has the idea of raising money for a comfortable sofa for the visitor lounge.

Chris has seen the kind of magazines and calendars that are in garages, and thinks the WI can use the same tactics to sell their calendar! She proposes members of the group pose for a nude photo shoot, with props from traditional WI activities preserving the modesty of the models. Initially the idea is met with scepticism, but gradually gathers support and momentum.

Southport Spotlights have assembled an accomplished cast for this heartwarming extravaganza.  Follow them on Facebook and Instagram to see cast details and character biographies, sneak peeks of songs and much more.

Calendar Girls has a team of men behind it – Director Rob McGregor is assisted by Dom Tolley, and Musical Director Adam Dutch is assisted by Chris Seery. The show runs from 5th-8th July and there is a matinee on the Saturday.

Tickets are also on sale for our youth theatre summer show, This year they are presenting the hit musical version of The Addams Family which will be on our main stage from 23-26 August 2023.
