Cambridge students can travel to and from their home town during the Easter break, following a change in government guidance.

University of Cambridge students have previously been told that if they travel to their term-time address, they must stay there permanently until lockdown restrictions are lifted.

However, the university has now confirmed that students can travel once to and from their home address from March 8 to April 29, following government guidance.

This applies to both UK and international students, but international students are strongly advised against international travel as restrictions could change at short notice and they may not be able to return.

Professor Graham Virgo, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor, said students should be tested before they leave and are encouraged to be tested before returning to Cambridge to stop the spread of Covid in the city.

The seven-day average for the number of Covid cases in Cambridge is 6.6 as of March 1, the latest day for which data is available.

Among 20 to 24-year-olds, the rolling rate for the number of cases per 100,000 people is 25.2, as of March 4.
