Campaign launched to get Tivvy's swimmers back in the water

Swimmers in Tiverton have launched a crowdfunding appeal to help them get back into the pool this summer.
Tiverton Swimming Club stopped swimming on March 17 and are now looking at getting back into the water at the Exe Valley Leisure Centre in Tiverton, Devon at the end of July.
Head coach Lucy Walton said: “Unfortunately the club has lost revenue due to COVID-19, most notably our annual competition open meet, the Tiverton Sparkler has been cancelled in September, and we rely on this gala every year to raise a few thousand pounds for the volunteer-run club to continue operating."

“Sport England has set up a fantastic fundraising opportunity for local sports clubs using the crowdfunding platform, and they will match fund up to 50 per cent of our crowdfunding project as long as we meet their criteria.
"As a sports club we hope to raise £2,500 by asking lots of people to people to donate small amounts, and we can then receive an additional £2,500 from Sport England, and raise a magnificent £5,000 in total for the club.
“We have got off to a good start, with £1,185 so far, and would love it if you could spread the word around Tiverton to help the club get back in the pool. I have attached a letter we have sent to our club members explaining this crowdfunding project.”

The project offers rewards in return for a donation, for example, a chocolate hamper, club t-shirt, one month’s squad fees, hot heats goodie bags and you can be placed into a raffle draw to win a reward.
“I can't wait to get everyone back in the water, I never thought I’d miss the swimmers and the club this much,” Lucy added.
“We have clear Return To The Pool Guidance from Swim England, our governing body and are busy planning how we get the swimmers back to the pool and their friends - they have missed it so much these last four months.”
Chairman Sara Dilks added: “The committee and coaches are working full steam ahead to make the return to the pool a safe experience, following all of the Swim England guidance and risk reduction advice we have been given.”
