Campaigner calls for fundraising business brochure to increase grant package support
'A Top Ten Table and ranked placing of funds raised and for which causes would be a great way to increase custom'

A campaigner for the heritage of Sefton is advocating for his local authority to officially recognise the role of long-standing businesses that fundraise for charities as part of its ongoing efforts to secure key infrastructure grant support.
Mr Barton is suggesting that a more proactive effort should be employed to raise awareness of, and aid, those establishments that fundraise consistently or for long periods of time.
This may be done through more direct promotion of charitable work, discretionary rate relief packages parallel to those conferred to charity shops and latterly a Levelling Up-style brochure that showcases these businesses which could be presented to Whitehall.

Mr Barton says: “In order for Sefton Council to succeed in achieving the necessary grant funding support for its more ambitious core infrastructure projects, such as drainage and transportation, it is essential that it becomes far more concerted in proving its worthiness to Government Officials.
Lathams, The Baker Ltd, based at No.35 Liverpool Road is an example of a local business that not only fits the placemaking principles precisely, but has voluntarily supported a number of causes through the decades. These have ranged from the more widely known Children In Need and Comic Relief to local churches and other bodies”
"Whilst there are many businesses that are frequently reported on for their outstanding feats of kindness and goodwill, it is probably worth acknowledging these other lesser known enterprises that may in fact be doing far more behind the scenes than people realise to help others. A single pamphlet that displays all the major fundraising businesses with a Top Ten Table and ranked placing of funds raised and for which causes would be a great way to increase custom, demonstrate initiative to Westminster and most importantly drive new businesses to open in vacant areas over the long-term fuelling the entire Sefton economy.
“If this leads to just one additional major funding grant, such as flooding and drainage support improvements for Aintree and Maghull, rail regeneration between Southport and Lancashire or simply an appropriate Transport Corridor that protects all greenspaces at Bootle, then this has to be worth considering.”
