Campaigner lauds Government Levelling Up programme
David Barton has his say on the issues facing Southport and Sefton.
David Barton has commend the Government for its recent announcement
A prominent campaigner for the heritage of Sefton has chosen to commend Central Government for its recent announcement of its twelve Levelling Up missions and their enshrinement into UK Law.
Levelling Up (LU) is a core principle and defining aspect of Central Government designed specifically to improve commerce and enterprise across all four compass points of the UK. The concept focuses upon granting people based in areas formerly prosperous in centuries gone by to regain their economic impetus in the Digital Age bringing newfound and renewed opportunities alike for all age ranges.
The primary purpose of the Policy is to bring mass-scale improvement to each of the devolved nations of the UK that have been historically proven to be key economic drivers for the entire country. There is a particular emphasis on areas requiring a heightened level of support to unleash their full economic potential thereby benefiting the corresponding regions and their associated conurbations.
The original mandate expressly specified the following themes to be achieved by 2030: Investing in towns, cities, and rural and coastal areas; giving those areas more control of how investment is made; levelling up skills using apprenticeships and a £3bn National Skills Fund; making life much easier for farming and fishing industries; and creating up to 10 freeports to help deprived communities.
David Barton, former Councillor for the Dukes Ward covering the Town Centre and West Birkdale, has and continues to champion high-quality Placemaking and the merits to supporting all parts of society ever since 2014. He affirms that the recent announcement is a huge landmark in the history of the country and its respective communities based up and down that may have previously felt isolated.
The community campaigner, whose ultimate focus has been and remains the restoration of Sefton believes that this has huge economic scope for areas in great requirement of mass-scale assistance that have proven to be fiscally successful when provided with the sufficient level of resource before. He wishes to see as many openings as possible for the entire Sefton Borough materialise where Traditional Vernacular Architecture is made an operative priority.
Mr. Barton says: “I should like to commend Central Government and the Prime Minister for following through with this commitment established in 2019 for the untold possibilities that Levelling Up will confer nationwide.”
He says: “Having raised the importance of Placemaking for over eight years now across all tiers of Governance including my own time serving on the Local Authority, this is a most welcome and praiseworthy announcement. The fact that a government of any stripe has now taken the first progressive step towards proactively acting on and delivering this long-needed Policy Programme should be heralded in all quarters.”
“Be it canvassing residents and businesses, pursuit of individual and collective restorative projects with Sefton Council and raising matters directly with Ministers, this is testament to the genuine committed positive and constructive work undertaken by Campaigners such as myself and others seeking parity for all neighbourhoods across the UK.”
“Should there now be a greater effort to make Traditional Architecture more mainstream with the Pride in Place directive, this really will have multifold benefits for everyone on commercial, community and climatic grounds. If so, this really will be a true Levelling Up Revolution to behold.”
