Canoe Against Cancer challenge's waterway weaving

The Canoe Against Cancer challenge undertaken by brothers Tom and George Bentham will see them navigate different waterways.
Their coast-to-coast journey begins at Glasson Dock, near Lancaster, where their late father Mark learned to sail as a boy and developed his sense of adventure. From there they will paddle towards the outskirts of Liverpool before taking in Manchester, Huddersfield, Wakefield and finally out into the Humber.
A total of 19 moveable bridges, 37 small aqueducts or under bridges, and four tunnels are involved in the 184-mile epic voyage. Canals, commercial waterways, small rivers, tidal rivers and seaways all feature in the complex route.
Tom, from South Park, Macclesfield, said: “It’s a pretty daunting distance and we aim to paddle our Canadian-style canoe for at least eight hours each day. It’s a physical, as well as fundraising challenge, and we’ve got to learn all the skills to do it safely.
“We’re looking for any sponsors who can help us raise funds for two incredible charities, East Cheshire Hospice and Macmillan.
“I may have been in a canoe once when I was in the cubs, but neither of us have any knowledge of what to do, so we’ll be watching plenty of YouTube videos.”
