Carmarthen set for St David’s Day parade and celebrations

Plans are underway for the celebration of St David’s Day in Carmarthen and
the grand parade on Saturday, March 4.

Mayor of Carmarthen Cllr Miriam Moules said: "I am looking forward to this celebration of Welsh tradition and contemporary culture in the heart of Wales's oldest town.”

On Wednesday, March 1, pupils from the town's Ysgol y Dderwen will parade to Guildhall Square via St Catherine’s Walk where they will sing for the public.

Following this there will be contributions from other local schools and Welsh entertainment from Fiddlebox among other Welsh artists.

Carmarthen public library will also be holding workshops where all are
invited to make a 3D printed d daffodil and a Welsh dragon chocolate mould.

The parade itself on Saturday, March 4, will start with a performance by the Carmarthen Ukeleles group in Guildhall Square at 10am followed by the Grand Parade starting at St Peter’s Church at 11am.

Carmarthen Symphonic Wind Band will perform, along with Côr Seingar, Fiddlebox, Dawnswyr Talog, and other Welsh artists until 4pm.

Emma Smith, Carmarthen Town clerk, said, “Members of the public are welcome to watch or join in the procession along King Street, into Nott Square and Guildhall Square.

"Groups or organisations joining are encouraged to bring their banners to display in the parade."

Carmarthen coracles will also form part of the parade adding to the fitting
celebration of St David.
