Community Interest Company to host 'Spectrums Got Talent'

An event has been set up so performers, including those with disabilities, can showcase their talents in a safe environment.

Community Interest Company to host 'Spectrums Got Talent'

The event, 'Spectrums Got Talent', was set up by Kevin McCarthy and his partner Samantha Nally, whose nephew Corey Whyte has Asperger's Syndrome and Pathological Demand Avoidance.

They were struggling to find a suitable environment for Corey to perform in without being judged or ridiculed.

Corey's team leader and Uncle, Kevin, wanted him to develop his ability in a safe space. He had noticed Corey's  passion for music and singing, but he did not have the confidence a performer should.

Kevin and Samantha began taking Corey to the e-rooms in Westgate, Skelmersdale, a Community Interest Company, established to help support the local community by offering music tuition and other creative outlets.

The e-rooms are currently creating two additional rehearsal rooms so they can increase the number of people they can support. As a Community Interest Company, they rely solely on charitable contributions to operate.

They launched their first event in April 2019, with Corey performing two sets, supported by other performers including Wigan-based Rik Jones, a blind guitarist and vocalist.

The next showcase will be at the e-rooms, 16 Westgate, Skelmersdale on March 29 from 11am to 5pm. All performers are welcome.
