Regular Surrey Mirror contributor, Dave Bishop, shares the community news from the village of Tatsfield in the Tandridge District of Surrey.

More double yellow lines for Tatsfield
A number of new signs have suddenly appeared in various parts of the village that state: “Surrey County Council proposes to make changes to the parking restrictions at or close to this location” which add that “you can also see proposals online. You can also see details on the normal opening/office hours by appointment only at... ” and it lists various places to go to.

So this was indeed a message that required an explanation and a visit to our Tandridge District Councillor Martin Allen. He explained the story and proposals as follows: “At the meeting of the Tandridge Local Committee held on Friday December 3, the following requests or suggestions regarding yellow lines were raised and they are now out to consultation.

"They are being considered mostly to reflect the need for further safety at the affected junctions or in the case of Church Hill to remove the two school Keep Clear markings in order to update the traffic order to match what is already on the ground. (This is just a change to the traffic regulation order as the markings are no longer on the ground, having not been replaced when the road was resurfaced, because they were no longer needed as the school has closed).

"Paynesfield Road to introduce double yellow lines on the inside of the bend opposite the entrance to Shipfield Close to improve sightlines for drivers and road safety by allowing two way traffic round the bend. In Westmore Road to reduce the length of the double yellow lines to the south of the junction with Grove Road by approximately four metres to free up parking space. This reversal came about after much lobbying by the local residents to the parish council and to Becky Rush our County Councillor.

"The Paynesfield Road junction with Johns Road will Introduce double yellow lines on the southern side of the junction to improve sightlines for drivers exiting Johns Road and for road safety, and to remove a short section of the double yellow lines in Johns Road on the north side of the junction in order to update the traffic order to match what is already on the ground. (This second part is just a change to the traffic regulation order and will not result in any change to the existing road markings).

"The only way to avoid further yellow lines in the future is for us all to park more sensibly and not on corners and junctions. Only recently walking up Paynesfield and down Westmore I can see that irresponsible parking is still taking place on bends and pavements, one in Westmore continuously blocking the pavement.” Mr Allen ended his information with: “Fines are being issued elsewhere in Tandridge so be aware, it is inevitable it will happen in the village."

On Mr Allen’s recommendation, further explanations were asked for from our Surrey County Councillor Becky Rush and her reply went as follows: “There is a consultation on yellow lines in Tatsfield. There is a stage prior to this consultation where suggestions from the public, councillors, PC etc. can make suggestions of yellow line changes.” So now you know.

Tatsfield’s Garden Club
To refresh your diary that the super gardening expert Bryan Everest will be giving another of his riveting talks at the W.I Hall next Tuesday evening March 8 starting at 7.30pm.

Some clever local gardeners enjoy rattling off Latin and the names of plants just roll off their tongues. I can assure you that if you set the tele to record and pop along next Tuesday evening at 7.30 pm, you will enjoy the evening and I can promise that you will learn a lot.

Price doubles in the W.I Hall
The regular “Pop In” is really busy these days and it’s good to see that the place is open every Wednesday morning from 10am till midday for a cup of tea and a biscuit. But there a sort of shock to the cistern (as one lady put it) the suggested price has for a cuppa and biccy has gone up from 50p to an eyebrow raising whole pound.
