Cornwall Care appoints new trustee

One of Cornwall’s leading care home operators has appointed a new trustee.
Cornwall Care appointed Derek Law, a man who received an MBE for the difference he has made to improving life for older people.

Derek, who lives in St Agnes, Cornwall, has spent 40 years working in the adult social care sector. Senior roles have included social service directorships at Cornwall Council, North Yorkshire County Council and the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

He was the chairman of Coastline Housing Limited for eight years and, while leading the social services team in Yorkshire, was awarded an MBE after a government committee declared the area ‘a good place to grow old’.

Joining Cornwall Care in the charity’s 25th anniversary year is especially symbolic as Derek was one of those responsible for moving residential homes out of Cornwall Council control in 1996.

He said: “It made sense for them to be run by a charitable organisation rather than in-house. I’m very proud to have been involved in the change process 25 years ago and delighted to be joining the team now as a trustee.

“I get a lot of personal satisfaction from helping to ensure older people are well looked after and Cornwall Care has earned its well-deserved reputation for making that happen. It is a real privilege to be working with them.”

Cornwall Care CEO, Anne Thomas added: “Derek’s impressive experience speaks for itself and will, I know, be especially valuable as we celebrate our anniversary year with a new and dynamic vision for the future.
