Essex County Council is considering stopping a bus service in Brentwood, Essex, due to “insufficient” people using it.

The 71C service runs peak time journeys between the Rose and Crown in Pilgrims Hatch, and the Railway Station in Brentwood, Monday to Friday.

Currently the service, operated by Stephensons, has been run using developer funding as part of a Section 106 agreement.

However, this funding will stop on March 26, and the county council has said the passenger usage, based on pre-Covid-19 figures, has been “insufficient” for the bus service to continue to be run commercially.

Because of this, ECC is considering withdrawing the service from March 26.

Before it makes a final decision, the council is conducting a public consultation into its proposals to end the service.

The consultation runs until February 14, and can be completed online here.

Anyone unable to complete the questionnaire online can contact the council by either emailing Passenger.transport@essex.gov.uk or calling 0345 603 7631
