Cullompton Farmer's Market returns with new safety measures

New safety measures are helping keep customers safe at Cullompton Farmer’s Market.
Stallholders returned to The Bullring on Saturday, January 30, after cancelling the event on Saturday, January 23 due to concerns raised over Covid-19.
Sarah Jones, who organises the fortnightly market said: “There were people who were not happy.
“Having said that, for each person who wasn’t happy, we had around a dozen more who were.
“We listened to those concerns, we consulted with Mid Devon District Council, with Public Health England and we took their advice.”
A new one-way system has been created to avoid shoppers’ clusters, and the market is now using the wider area of the town centre to help with spacing. Stallholders are ensuring facemasks are worn by those attending, and Covid-19 marshal, town councillor, Martin Smith, ensures the measures are adhered to.
“We think by the next market everyone will have been trained,” Sarah added.
“Our first market since the change has gone very well. Customers have come out in generous support, and we have seen new and regular people.
“Running a market during a pandemic has been challenging, but we are here because the items we sell are essential.
“We are not scared; we believe in what we’re doing. Many traders rely on it for their income, and we are keeping people fed and watered.
“Come along on the next market on February 13, the day before Valentine’s Day and see some special romantic things on offer.”
