Simm’s Cross Inst. B at home to Millfield
The Millfield were in a dominant mood as they reeled off the first seven games. Keith Horabin, Mike Howard and Tony Jackson started the ball rolling. Alan Sutton & Gaz Bason, Adam Mellor & Ian Wall and Tony Jackson & Mike Howard (17 darts & 180) continued in the pairs and Alan Sutton (18 darts & 147 finish) won the seventh for the Milly. Simm’s Cross Inst. B took the final two singles with wins from Lucas Quinton and Ian Woodward but the points went to the Millfield.

Ball A at home to Mill Brow SC
The first four games were shared, Clive Rule (17 darts) got the Brow on the score sheet before the Ball A levelled through Nathan Sivills (17 darts) with Peter Fisher (16 darts & 180) in defeat. Kieran Stringer (18 darts) put the away team back in front with Karl Windisch (180) in defeat, before Karl Windisch & Karl Whitfield (16 darts) made the game two each.

This was to be the home side’s last as the remaining games were won by the Brow. Kieran Stringer & Clive Rule (128 finish) and Brian Spruce & Dave Powell (16 darts) in the pairs. Brian Spruce (19 darts), Mike Callaghan (17 darts & 100 finish) and Dave Powell completed the victory for the visitors.

Hammer & Pincers at home to Simm’s Cross Inst. A
The Stute were in tremendous form as they took all nine games. Brian Dutton, Glen Owen and Paul Goulden started the rout. Tony Green & Eric Peel, Paul Batty & Stu Pennington and Ray & Brian Dutton took the pairs. Paul Batty with Chris Ellis (100 finish) in defeat, Ray Sutton and Mick Cullen completed the job.

Widnes CC v Ball A
Widnes CC got the preliminary round off to a good start when Nev Goff and Dave Herley took the first two legs. Karl Whitfield got one back and with partner Barry Highfield levelled the game in the opening pairs. This only spurred on the home team, Ian Sharples & Andy Davies, Dave Herley & Jonny Leather and Matty Fisher won the next three and the match. Nathan Savills (11 darts) produced the quickest leg of the night for the Ball before Phil Slavin took the last to set up a tie with Widnes RUFC.

Widnes CC v Widnes RUFC
The Cricket Club continued where they left off as they cruised into a 4-0 lead. Dave Herley, Phil Slavin (18 darts), Nev Goff and the opening pairs Dave Herley & Jonny Leather were on target before the Wids got one back through Phil Corless & David Goff. Matty Fisher & Trevor Chadwick got the CC over the line in the next. Keith Glover added a second for the RUFC before Billy Cain and Carl Bryan finished the match off for the winning team.

Widnes Bowling Club A v Millfield
The Millfield got off to a fine start, Joe Kelly (17 darts), Tony Jackson and Alan Sutton bagged the opening singles. The Bowler A hit back and took the next two through Tex Bowles & Rob Magee and Joe Batty & Scott Grady (17 darts). Adam Mellor & Mike Howard and Adam Mellor made the game safe for the Milly before Colin Grindley for the Bowler and Chris Taylor for the winners took the last two games.

Millfield v Ball B
The Millfield continued their fine form to reach the next round by taking five of the first six games. Mike Howard and Adam Mellor (16 darts) got them off to a good start before Darren Attwood got the Ball B on the score sheet. The Milly rattled off the three pairs with Chris Taylor & Mike Howard, Joe Kelly & Tony Jackson and John Taylor & Ian Wall being the victors. Lee Woollam took the next for the Ball before Chris Taylor for the Milly and Ste Cowley for the Ball finished the tie.

Mill Brow SC v Simm’s Cross Inst.
The Stute were in scintillating form as they rolled over their rivals with the minimum of fuss. Ray Dutton (14 darts) and Glen Owen (17 darts) got them off to a flyer before Kev Helps got the Brow’s only leg. Glen Owen & Andy Abbott, Dave Evans & Joe Pennington and Ged McPartland & Brian Dutton took the pairs. The final singles were won by Brian Dutton, Mick Cullen and Dave Batty to take the Stute into the next stage.

Cricketer’s Arms v Widnes Bowling Club B
The Bowler B raced into a four leg lead with wins from Alan Magee, Joe Price, Tom Callaghan and the opening pair Alan & Danny Magee. Tony & Kevin Langford pulled a point back before the match was settled with a win from Joe Price & Colin Rigby. Dave Gerrard took the next for Leggies but wins from Danny Magee (16 darts) and Mike Callaghan (17 darts) finished the game off in style for the winners.
