Widnes Bowling Club 501 League
Round 10
Millfield at home to Mill Brow SC
The Milly got away to a fine start, Tony Jackson (18 darts) and Ian Wall (18 darts & 180) put them two up. Peter Fisher (19 & 15 darts & 2x180) replied in excellent fashion for the Brow. Clive Rule & Kieran Stringer, Dave Powell & Brian Spruce and Tom Callaghan & Peter Fisher put the away team within a point of victory. This they achieved when Clive Rule (19 darts) won the next game. The last two were shared, Gaz Bason for the home team and Dave Powell (17 darts) for the winners.
Simm’s Cross Inst. B at home to Simm’s Cross Inst. A
The A were first off the mark with a win by Ray Dutton and the scores were tied when Ian Woodward took the next. Tony Green restored the away team’s lead but the match was again all square again when Ian Woodward & Mark Johnson took the opening pairs. Andy Abbott & Glen Owen (180) and Paul Goulden & Tony Green won the next two for the A before Luke Lund gave the B the next. The points were won when the Stute A took the last two with wins from Brian Dutton and Stu Pennington.
Ball A at home to Widnes Bowling Club B
The Bowler won the opening singles with wins from Danny Magee, Alan Magee (16 & 18 darts) and Robbie Gorst (17 darts). Karl Whitfield & Anthony Hall got the home side off the mark but wins from Terry Roach & Robbie Gorst and John Bowles & Alan Magee secured the points for the away team. Karl Windisch won the next for the Ball before Terry Roach and John Bowles won the last two for the visitors.
Widnes Bowling Club A at home to Hammer & Pincers
The Bowling Club A made short work of the opposition as they won all nine games. Rob Magee, Tex Bowles and Dave Gerrard won the opening singles. Chris Drury & Dave Gerrard, Joe Batty & Scott Grady and Rob Magee & Mathew Drury took the pairs. Mathew Drury (15 darts), Joe Batty (14 darts) and Scott Grady completed the rout.

Round 11
Ball A at home to Widnes Bowling Club B
The Bowler started off well by taking the first three singles matches. Joe Price (12 darts), Danny Magee and Robbie Gorst winning for the away team. The Ball hit back by winning the next two, Nathan Sivills & Karl Whitfield (17 darts) and Anthony Hall & Peter Jerram whittled away at the deficit. Joe Price & Colin Rigby increased the lead for the Bowler only for Karl Whitfield to cut the gap to one. With everything to play for, John Bowles and Kev Garcia (11 darts) took the last two to give the away side the points.
Widnes RUFC at home to Widnes CC
The Widnes Cricket Club continued where they left off after last week’s cup triumph. Phil Slavin (17 darts) put them one up only for Andy McIntosh (16 darts) to level the tie in the next. This was the home team’s last as the CC reeled off the remaining seven legs. Ian Sharples won the last of the opening singles before partnering Kev Baxter in the first of the pairs. Phil Slavin & Carl Bryan (17 darts) and Jonny Leather & Dave Herley secured the points for the visitors. Billy Cain, Ernie Griffith and Trevor Chadwick completed an easy victory.
Simm’s Cross Inst. at home to Millfield
Ian Wall (14 darts) continued his good recent form for the Milly and with team mate Mike Howard winning the next the away team were on top. Andy Abbott replied for the Stute before the two game lead was restored through Mike Howard & Tony Jackson. Joe Pennington & Dave Evans (17 darts) pulled one back only for Adam Mellor & Ian Wall (17 darts) to put the away team one leg away from victory. Tony Green closed the gap to one before Ben Hewitt put the Milly over the line with a win in the next. Mick Cullen took the last for the home side but not the points.
Mill Brow SC at home to Cricketer’s Arms
The Brow got off to a good start with Jeff Thompson and Dave Powell putting them two up. Leggies then won three of their own, Dave Gerrard, Kevin Langford & Karl Abbott and Graham Fenney & Paul Mason put the visitors in front. However this was to be their last with the home team winning the final four legs to take the spoils. Dave Powell & Mark Harrison in the pairs followed by Brian Spruce, Paul Linger (19 darts) and Paul Woodwood (19 darts).
Widnes Bowling Club A at home to Ball B
Scott Grady gave the Bowler the first leg only to see Shaun McDermott even things up. Tex Bowles then won the next for the home team before the Ball took the next two to give them the lead. Shaun McDermott & Kev O’Brien (18 darts) and Kris Kavanagh & Ben Hogan for the visitors. This only inspired the home team to victory as they ran out the remaining legs. Joe Batty & Scott Grady, Alex McGill, Ray O’Connor and Joe Batty winning to secure the points.
