Muslims in Tilehurst are inviting the community to learn more about their plans to convert offices into a mosque.

The Zainabiya Foundation will host the community open evening at Equity House in School Road in Tilehurst, Berkshire on Tuesday, February 20 between 7.30pm and 9pm.

The event aims to alleviate concerns about the plans from those living in the area and also raise awareness of projects they run in the community, including a foodbank.

The Foundation submitted plans to Reading Borough Council to create a place of worship for Shia Muslims in Berkshire.

The proposals received a number of objections due to fears it would cause gridlock on the roads.

Trustees of the mosque, Hussain Haidry, Mumtaz Shigri and Amir Saqlain, and worshipers will be available to talk to people about the plans for the Zainabiya Centre and how they hope to fit in with the existing community.

The organisers hope the evening will provide an opportunity for people to get to know each other better.

Members of Tilehurst Parish Council, West Berkshire Council, police and councillors have also been invited as well as other respected community leaders from the village and Reading, Berkshire.
