Drink driving charge after police chase through Southport

A MAN has been charged with drink driving after a police chase through Southport.

Joseph Sammon will go before court  accused of driving while over the limit, driving without due care and  attention and failing to stop for police.

Officers from Lancashire Police were  called to Wyke Lane, just outside Southport,  at around 9am on Saturday,  February 27 to reports a vehicle was blocking the road.

As police arrived, the driver made off  and a short chase pursued before he eventually was stopped on Hawkshead  Street. A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving  and traffic offences.

A spokesman confirmed that Sammon, 43,  of Cypress Road, Southport, Merseyside, has since been charged and is due to appear  at Preston Magistrates’ Court on April 22
