Dukinfield Library host free event to explore themes around dementia

Dementia Week (May 13-19) is organised by the Alzheimer’s Society to highlight the issues facing all those affected by the condition in any way.
Tameside’s libraries are supporting the annual initiative by making expert-endorsed information available through the new Reading Well for Dementia booklist compiled by the Reading Agency.
The books will be on show at the local launch at Dukinfield Library, Concord Way, on Thursday (May 16) from 11am to 12pm. It will also feature a dementia-friendly performance by singer Natalie Ciufo, information stands and light refreshments. All adults are welcome.
From 3.30pm to 4.30pm, Dukinfield Library will host a free crafts and story session, suitable for children four and over and their families, exploring themes around dementia with Elmer the Patchwork Elephant from the popular books by David McKee.
There’s no need to reserve a place, just come along on the day.
Cllr John Taylor, Tameside Council’s executive member for adult care, said: “Almost a million people in the UK live with some form of dementia, and the number is rising as lives get longer.
“However, as so many of our residents will know, the condition also affects friends and family, especially those who are carers. Our event at Dukinfield Library will show them where they can find the help and support they need so much.”
