East Ayrshire Council welcome new school meal mascot after design competition
Carson's winning design now features on school meal menus and branding
‘Super Tattie’ is now the new school meal mascot at East Ayrshire Council, thanks to a creative youngster.
The council’s Catering Services launched a competition for all primary and special school children and young people to design a new mascot that would appear on school meal menus and all branding.
And Carson, from Dalmellington Primary, scooped the top spot out of almost 500 entries with his spud-tastic design, securing £250 for his school.
Carson’s ‘Super Tattie’ sees a grinning potato who is kitted out in a superhero-like costume, complete with a tartan cape, matching red boots and gloves, a belt and eye mask.

Runners up, who each won £50 for their schools, were; Leah from P4 at Darvel Primary with Sam Witch the sandwich mascot and Pyper from P3/4 at St Sophia’s Primary with Lisa Pizza.
Councillor Elaine Cowan, who led the judging panel, said: “We fully considered all the wonderful designs before selecting the winner- ‘Super Tattie’.
“We all loved the concept of a super Ayrshire tattie. Tatties are so versatile; they can be turned into the most delicious meal, added to soup, they are affordable and can be easily grown at home.”
