East Croydon care home residents enjoy traditional Burns Night
It was a perfect occasion to celebrate an evening steeped in an age-old tradition

Staff and residents from a care home in East Croydon enjoyed a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipes played by Conway Buckle.
Peony Court care home in Park Hill, held a number of activities including the art of Scottish Country Dancing and the Ceilidh to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.
They also enjoyed a spot of Scotch whisky tasting and read a selection of Burns’ poems. There was a virtual tour of the Robbie Burns Museum finished off with dessert making by concocting a Tipsy Laird for afters.
Peony Court general manager, Sandra Roche, thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate an evening steeped in an age-old tradition.
She said: “Burns Night was a fantastic event at Peony Court, it’s so important to continue these traditions. Our residents enjoyed a hearty meal of Scotch broth, Haggis with neeps and tatties all prepared by our stellar chef."
Pat, a resident of Peony Court, said: “I enjoyed acting out the part of the whisky-bearer and asking everyone to raise a dram to toast the haggis. Burns Night was just a brilliant night here.”
