Essential repainting to begin on a canal bridge in Skipton

A Skipton bridge is set to undergo a large scale repainting scheme.
North Yorkshire County Council have announced the bridges team will carry out the job on Pinder Canal Bridge on Keighley Road to help protect it from weather damage.
Pinder Bridge is a very well-used bridge that crosses the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and a recent inspection revealed that the paint protecting the steel parts of the bridge has deteriorated, exposing it to weather damage and causing these parts to corrode. By cleaning and repainting the bridge it will be protected from the elements to prevent any further deterioration.
Work began on Monday 6 June, lasting for six weeks. It will be open under two-way traffic lights and the canal will remain open. Pedestrian access will be maintained on Keighley Road.
Cllr Andy Solloway, member for the Skipton West and West Craven division, said: "To minimise the inconvenience to road users we are carrying out the work before the school summer holidays. We have also consulted with local boat hire businesses and the Canal & River Trust to ensure that the canal will remain open and allow boats to pass.
"We would like to apologise in advance for the disruption and would urge you to leave extra time for your journeys. This is an essential scheme which, when complete, will have gone a long way in future-proofing the bridge."
