A hospice care charity in Farnham in Surrey has received a donation to improve its in-patient unit.
Phyllis Tuckwell was given £412 from long-term supporters KatCanDo, a Surrey based cancer charity which gave the money to pay for a new hoist for the hospice’s in-patient unit (IPU).
Phyllis Tuckwell’s in-patient services manager Jackie Johnson and individual giving manager Claire McDonald welcomed Kendra Cardy, Alan and Pat Mowatt, and Ingrid Long from KatCanDo to the hospice on February 22 to see the hoist and meet some of the IPU staff.
Jackie said: “We would like to thank Kendra, Alan, Pat and Ingrid, and all of those who supported KatCanDo in raising this money.
“Our old IPU hoist was very heavy and not really fit for purpose anymore, so we had been borrowing a hoist from our Living Well team.
"However, this meant that it was being moved between departments through the hospice, and so to now have our own one here on the IPU is fantastic. It’s easier to use than our old one and much safer from a manual handling point of view.”
Kendra said: “KatCanDo are delighted that we have been able to donate the money to buy this very important piece of equipment.
“We understand that the hoist is essential and necessary for the comfort and safety of patients in their everyday care in the Hospice.”
Since it was formed in 2004, KatCanDo has donated more than £33,000 to Phyllis Tuckwell.
The donations have helped Phyllis Tuckwell buy equipment including two syringe drivers, a cough assist device, beds and mattresses, as well as this new hoist.
Phyllis Tuckwell supports more than 250 patients, relatives, and carers every day through medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support.
