Firefighters called to acid spillage at home in Reading

Firefighters cleaned up an acid spillage at a home in central Reading, Berkshire.

Crews from Caversham Road and Wokingham Road fire stations attended the incident in The Dell at 12.45am on Friday, December 22.

Watch manager James Blake from Caversham Road fire station said: "We had two firefighters in breathing apparatus and chemical clothing entered the building.

"It was all over the floor, all over the place.

"We were able to stabilise the acid using special granules which neutralise the acid and safely contain it."

Two people were evacuated from the property but were described as safe and well. No ambulance was required.

The firefighters were also required to test the acid to make sure it was sulfuric.

The crews spent two hours on the scene and making home safe before leaving.

Police were also at the scene.
