Do you need some ideas to keep the children occupied during half term week which runs from Monday, February 21 until Friday, February 25?

To help families in Cardiff make the most of their holidays and the rest of the year, InYourArea.co.uk has come up with some ideas to help keep them amused.

St Fagans National Museum of History

Where: St Fagans National Museum of History is located four miles west of Cardiff City Centre, CF5 6XB.

St Fagans National Museum Of History is an open-air museum that includes more than 40 historical buildings which have been set within 100 acres of parkland.

Its historic buildings have been taken from all over Wales, dismantled and re-located at the Museum.

Visitors can see buildings ranging from a Tudor merchant's house to a Victorian school, as well as watch blacksmith's, bakers and clog-makers demonstrate traditional skills.

‘Winter of Wellbeing’ for Children and Young People

Where: The Child Friendly Cardiff Pop Up Shop is Located on the first floor of St David's Shopping Centre in the former Gap store unit.

The next phase of Cardiff Council’s, Welsh Government funded, ‘Winter of Wellbeing’ has arrived for half-term, running until the end of March.

Offering free opportunities and activities for 0 to 25-year-olds across the city, ‘Winter of Wellbeing’ has all the ingredients to keep you entertained this half-term, including the Child Friendly Cardiff pop-up shop, open Monday to Friday from 10.30am to 8pm, Saturdays 10.30am to 7pm and Sundays 11am to 5pm in St David’s (where Gap used to be) plus events all over Cardiff.

A walk around Roath Park Lake

Where: Lake Rd W, Cardiff CF23 5PA

Roath Park Lake, opened in 1894, one of the first public parks in Cardiff. The Scott Memorial Lighthouse on the lake is one of Cardiff’s iconic images.

The 30-acre man-made lake is a popular facility for fishing and boating.

The park is popular with families of all ages, the playground is the perfect place to entertain children, while a lap around the lake taking in all the sights and sounds is sure to tire them out, You can even stop for a Coffee or an Ice cream.

Learn a new skill this half term with the Llanrumney hall community trust

Where: Llanrumney Hall, Ball Road, CF3 4JJ.

Llanrumney Hall Community Trust have been working alongside Cardiff and Vale College as well as funders to deliver exciting programmes and opportunities throughout the February 2022 half term.

One of the courses on offer this half term is: Teen DIY Club:

This course is held across three days in the February half term and aims to provide young people with hand-on DIY experience to develop their range of skills and abilities.

It will involve projects such as building garden planters, bug hotels and painting picnic benches.

These courses are fully funded so won’t cost you a penny and will provide you with valuable hands on experience that you can use in education or the work place. Open for 13 to 19 year olds  with limited spaces.

Free events to get Cardiff cyclists ready for Spring

Free events are being held in Cardiff geared to encourage more people to cycle and to get their bikes road-ready in time for Spring.

The family-friendly events will be held in Canton, Splott and Cardiff city centre, and will have entertainment, live music and cycle-kit giveaways.

The Cycle Ready for Spring campaign is run by Cardiff Council and its partners, residents will be able to get their bikes checked over by professionals, have small repairs done, and get them security tagged by South Wales Police.

Where:  The events will take place at the following locations between 11am and 3pm:

  • Victoria Park, Saturday, February 19
  • STAR Hyb, Saturday, February 26
  • Cardiff Castle, Saturday, March 5

A variety of activities will take place, including:

  • Dr Bike will provide free maintenance checks and small repairs delivered by Cardiff Cycle Workshop
  • South Wales Police will be in attendance to offer free, security marking
  • Pedal Emporium will be providing cycle-powered fun and games including a cycle-powered bubble machine. The faster you cycle the more bubbles you'll create
  • Live music will be playing including Wonderbrass at Grangetown Pavilion and Cardiff Castle, Capra Mamei at Victoria Park
  • Ovo bikes will be supporting the event by ensuring that the bike stations closest to these events are up and running and well supplied with bikes, with 50 free vouchers available at each event, which gives 30 minutes of free cycling
