Builders’ merchant Buildbase has awarded £10,000 worth of building materials to Fleet Spurs FC.

Following the club’s application to the Buildbase Non-league Club Renovation programme, Fleet Spurs, along with nine other clubs taking part in the FA Trophy and Vase competitions, will be awarded building materials to renovate their facilities.

Judges from Buildbase and the FA chose Fleet Spurs as one of the ten winners due to the great benefit the project would have on the club as well as its local community.

Fleet Spurs plan to reconfigure their clubhouse, add a women’s toilet and upgrade facilities for disabled people, making the club more accessible to all.

The club’s chairman John Haddock explained: “On busy days we don't have enough toilets and accessibility is poor.

“While we only have three female teams, girls also play in our youth sides and our under-six academy, and our facilities are a poor reflection on their requirements.

“Winning this bursary means a great deal. It will enable us to reconfigure our clubhouse to add a second women's toilet and upgrade the disabled toilet including a changing space.

“Our improved facilities we hope will attract more use among community groups and businesses.”

The local Buildbase branch in Farnham, Surrey, will be supporting the club with information, advice and supplying the building products required for the project.

Buildbase Procurement Director Martin Bull added: “We had a huge response to our renovation competition this year.

“Fleet Spurs FC did a fantastic job of explaining how the bursary would be used and the effect of that on the wider community as well as on their ability to run as a business.

“We look forward to seeing how the project plays out over the coming months.”

Fleet Spurs are based in Fleet, Hampshire.
