Fourth-generation ice cream makers scoop award
B Sidoli & Sons have won the National Ice Cream Competitions Silver Challenge Cup for their salted caramel flavoured dairy ice cream.
Now in its 75th year, the National Ice Cream Competition, is hosted annually by the Ice Cream Alliance, who are the UK trade association for the ice cream industry.
Hundreds of products are submitted across 13 categories ranging from 'Best Vanilla' to ‘Alternative’ ice creams, which are classified as products which are free from the top 14 allergens, as well as being dairy-free, low-fat, high-protein, and zero-sugar, amongst others.
B Sidoli & Sons was founded by Benedetto Sidoli in 1922 and the family have made ice cream in Ebbw Vale ever since. The business is currently in its fourth generation and has around 750 customers across Wales.
The company recently scooped up the Silver Challenge Cup at the 2020 awards, for their salted caramel flavour ice cream.
Stefano Sidoli, Great Grandchild of Benedetto, said: "I am absolutely delighted to win this award. We have been making this flavour since 2014."
In addition to being an ice cream manufacturer and wholesaler, B Sidoli & Sons has a retail unit, called Caffé Sidoli's, at the McArthur Glen retail outlet in Bridgend, where people can sample their ice cream.
Zelicia Carr, CEO of the Ice Cream Alliance said: "Congratulations to Stefano and all his team at B Sidoli & Sons. There was very stiff competition. This flavour category saw some outstanding entries and the judges were hard pressed to choose a winner."
