Friends of Swansea’s Singleton Park launch more improvements
Friends of Singleton Park continues to work on projects and have plans for the future
More improvements are being carried out at Singleton Park in Swansea thanks to the hard work of volunteers.
The Friends of Singleton Park (FoSP) has launched its latest big project and started work in the area between the Gorsedd Stones and the toilet block, this includes a woodland walk and a bog garden - previously a
planted garden which has become overgrown.
FoSP is a group of volunteers who meet to do gardening and clearing work in the park and seek to support projects that enhance the park.
Sue Davies, a member of the group said: "The area we are working on is easily accessible, being close to the disabled parking spaces and near a grassed area.
"One of our members, Paul Bidder a horticultural lecturer at Gower College has combined his professional knowledge along with his love and appreciation of the park.
"He has drawn a plan to bring in more light, opening up the top path that was inaccessible.
"He has devised planting, including suitable plants and we are delighted to have had support from the park management and practical help from the
park teams."
"This is collaborative working at its best, our volunteer groups, though small, have achieved a lot.
She added: "We have had help from Swansea University gardening group as well as
the Discovery Group, which is a way for students to get familiar with their local park."

As part of the work drainage has been improved; paths have been edged and widened and new trees have been provided from Swansea Council.
Sue added: "Reaching the planting phase we are hoping to communicate with the other parks to utilise surplus plant material.
"We have been supported by our local Sketty councillors with a generous donation, we are keen to emphasise that the park is a resource for the whole city.
"We have also received a substantial grant from the Pettifor
Trust to enable us to purchase and erect bird and bat boxes for the area.
"We really appreciate this community support, it is testament that others also feel that this project is beneficial and is important to residents and wildlife.
