From sorority to serious at The Little Theatre with Legally Blonde

Hercule Poirot has been a very good dog and unmasked the killer of Sir Claude Amory so we can all sleep easy now. Black Coffee played to excellent audiences last week, many of whom were unfamiliar with this particular mystery and enjoyed the whodunnit element.

This weekend BOS MTC are in residence bringing us the musical version of Legally Blonde. The tale of sorority sweetheart switching sunshine for seriousness (in pursuit of love) started as a romantic comedy novel by Amanda Brown released in 2001.

That same year it was the basis for the movie Legally Blonde starring Reese Witherspoon. A sequel followed in 2003, and the musical version debuted on Broadway in 2007.

After North American Tours, Legally Blonde opened in the West End in 2010, starring Sheridan Smith as Elle Woods. Elle is happy studying Fashion Merchandising and leading her sorority, planning to be betrothed to her boyfriend: Warner Huntingdon III.

Instead of proposing to Elle, Warner breaks up with her. He says he needs somebody serious and he is off to study law at Harvard on the East coast.

Elle works her socks off and manages to get in to the prestigious Ivy League university to try to win him back. Alas, upon her arrival he has already begun a new relationship with Vivienne Kensington.

Her Delta Nu sorority sisters encourage her to be positive in the style of a Greek Chorus and Elle forges friendships with local salon owner Paulette, and teaching assistant Emmett Forrest. Elle, Warner and Vivienne are thrust into an early internship when their Professor takes on a high profile murder case.

The accused is Brooke Wyndham, a former Delta Nu. She is accused of murdering her much older husband and refuses to divulge the alibi that could save her.

Can Elle’s blend of legal smarts and sisterhood save the day? Will Warner see the error of his ways? The only way to find out is to bend and snap up your tickets now!
