A plucky gardener is taking on a fundraising challenge with a twist this May, walking his lawnmower 25 miles from Runcorn to Manchester. Drawing influence from his profession, Connor Morris, the owner of Turf Masters, will tackle the walk to raise cash for the Stroke Association.
Connor will start his roughly nine-hour challenge on May 20, beginning in the Old Town in Runcorn before travelling to Manchester and likely finishing in a pub in the city centre. He has chosen the Stroke Association because at the start of this year, his grandad had a stroke.
He said he 'never thought in a million years' that it would happen to someone 'so close' to him, and what 'also shocked' him is that his grandad is 'quite young'. Connor said he's 59, and he 'thought selfishly' that 'these sort(s) of things' only happened to older people, which 'isn't true'.
Connor said his grandad's life has 'changed massively', and in the 'space of a couple (of) months', he's having to learn to speak again and use his left arm, as the stroke affected the left side of his brain. He said his grandad is 'getting back to his normal self now' and 'getting stronger day by day'.
