Fun and fundraising

Spring is in the air and more than 300 people have already signed up for this year’s Folkestone Coastal 10k.
The popular fundraising run will take place on Sunday, May 29 starts on Folkestone seafront and heads towards Hythe then back, taking in the beautiful coastal scenery.
Last year’s race sold out for the third year in a row, with 950 runners participating and a record £62,000 raised for good causes.
Local beneficiaries have included Touchbase Care, South Kent Mind, Romney Marsh Day Centre, The Shed and Living Words.

Race director Ray Johnson said: “Now is a great time to get on your running shoes and participate in this exciting event.
“We are hoping for tremendous support from the crowds, and have already received positive feedback from experienced runners who cannot wait to participate, particularly due to the distance that is within many runners’ reach.”
The 10 kilometre run is a flat promenade route, traffic free and a great race for those who are relatively new to running, but also for those more experienced looking for a good personal best.
Runners will set off from the eastern entrance of the coastal park at 10am. There will also be a children’s race for under-15s at 9.30am.

Local schools and businesses are being encouraged to get a team together with special team prizes up for grabs.
The event is a real community affair with local Rotary Clubs, Folkestone and Hythe District Council, the local police and other voluntary organisations offering their help.
Alongside main sponsor SAGA, the annual fundraiser is being supported by The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust, Sleeping Giant Media, Folkestone College and Church & Dwight.
Organisers would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in providing further sponsorship and prizes.
